My image "Ferry Light #2" is on view at Frame 1A gallery in Alameda, CA, as part of Slap It Up, a community-built photography exhibition.
The premise is simple. Selected photographers each bring one unframed print. On installation day, everyone shows up on scheduled time slots and finds a place for their piece on the wall. There's no curator assigning positions in advance. The exhibition takes shape in real time. Built by the people whose work is in it.
It's a different way of seeing a show come together, and a different way of being part of one.
I took Ferry Light #2 on a ferry to Alcatraz, during PACC's June field trip. I saw this scene while I was waiting in line for snacks: a table of people, each looking at their own phone, together but not really. I took several photos, and none took notice of what I was doing.
